WHEN HE SCRATCHES

Those wounds on his hands
Those wounds on his feet
The pain he went through just for you and me
Those wounds of unrepairable pain
Love that can never be set right again
The most that mankind will ever see
That sacrifice of self for the world
So that from sin for eternity
If they take its name with faith, they can be free
All of this we can never repay
Neither can anything we say
He only wants gratitude for his fee
The kind that you help you're self with first
The kind that you don't need to make a mention of
Because it's already seen

When you don't seem to get the point
When you throw away your link to grace
And live your life carelessly
It reminds him of the pain
It makes his wounds itch and when he scratches them
It doesn't relieve him of any
That's something he's willing to do
because he loves and care for you
He's just trying to bring it on easy
that the better you do, the less you pay
on that wonderful dayand that by grace
you can change any inadequacy
Love doesn't do any one any good
if they don't love themselves as they should
Anyway, in the end it's their price to pay
Good enough isn't going to cut it on that wonderful day
And there's no price then you can pay then to change that
The amount you have reminded him
of the pain of Calvary's cross
shows how good enough you are not

He makes the rules, he lays them down
He holds the key to heaven and there are no rules
that he's going to flout
He's only got love on the menu
until the time comes to lay all your choices
which you stand by
on the scale of justice
Then you're either taken up or left behind
depending on whether you're worthy or not
There are no more second chances'n
No more grace at your feet
The more pain you make him recall
The more further down you fall
from how worthy you should be
His only concern is that you should
earn you're way through to the other side.
